Vision of Value !

Every year, the Union Public Service Commission conducts the Civil Services Exam, upon passing which, the selected candidates are trained to become bureaucrats of Indian government and serve the nation and its people. While about a million aspirants appear for the exam, only around 0.2 % are selected or this prestigious occupation. Yet, achieving this feat is not difficult if one has the determination to do so. Though academic knowledge is essential, it is the attitude, personality and dedication to serve the society, that distinguishes this miniscule percentage of achievers from the remaining 99.98% aspirants. One such personality to testify these qualities is Mr. Krishna Gopal Tiwari, I.A.S., the first visually impaired Officer in the Country to join the I.A.S. Belonging to the 2008 batch of IAS Officers from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, Mr. Krishna Gopal Tiwari is a visually impaired Officer who comes from a humble background. He became totally blind during his college days, as a result of‘ progressive Retinitis Pigmentosa’.
This despite, he secured 142nd rank in the 2007 Civil Services exam. It requires lot of courage, will power and attitude for a person with progressive blindness to prepare and crack the Civil Services Exam, especially, when it is the first of its kind in the Indian Civil Services history. Coming from a remote village in UP, where Krishna’s father depended on seasonal agriculture for his livelihood and when Krishna’s brother too was diagnosed with the same progressive blindness, the journey to attain this pinnacle called I.A.S. could have never been better than a long nightmare. Yet, no barrier could stop Mr. Krishna Gopal Tiwari from becoming a Civil Services Officer and he got trained in the iconic Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie. Allotted the Madhya Pradesh cadre, his first posting was as Assistant Collector in Chhindwara district.
There, he played a major role in launching the ‘Akshay Urja Express’, in Chhindwara, as a part of awareness programme on renewable energy. His first independent charge was in the Janpad Panchayat, as CEO. He then got elevated as a Sub Divisional Magistrate in Berasia of Bhopal. Later, he took charge as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Zila Panchayat, Hoshanga bad. Subsequently, he became the District Magistrate of a tribal district – Umaria. Currently, Mr. Krishna Gopal Tiwari, I.A.S., is the Director for Social Justice and Disability Welfare, Madhya Pradesh.
